I got a job as a production coodinator a year ago and just got promoted to Associate Field Producer for the 2nd season of a hit show on VH1 with more offers coming including the possibility of creating a TV series with another wonderful Latina writer! Mr. Gutierrez is amazing. Some of the things I read in his chapters are so similar to what my doubts are or have been all my life. I'm reading it so fast; I can't wait to go on to the next chapter. I identify with part of his goals and the self-doubts about achieving them. It's funny how other people can see in us what we don't see ourselves.
Daniel, I am in the final stretch of your book....I finally had a day off and began to read the book, which I have been carrying in my briefcase since you left in hopes of sneaking a few pages here and there...and let me just say, I have been greatly inspired. I've been through several team-building / diversity exercises at our annual off-site meetings, but the presentation by Mr. Gutierrez was very progressive. He did not speak so much about race, or diversity, or classism, but more about people. The various group and interactive exercises helped me to be more conscious of things that I may do without realizing it when interacting with others that may be considered rude or offensive. Mr. Gutierrez' presentation also helped to confirm my view that people are unique individuals and they should not be lumped into this or that group based on some physical or cultural characteristic, and we should value our individual differences. The presentation also helped to make me more aware that it's not about whether I am able to form a perfect relationship with those I work and live with, but whether or not despite our unique qualities, we can still work together with others in an efficient and effective manner towards a mutually beneficial goal. I know the in sig hts that I gained will help me to be more accepting of people for their unique qualities, more considerate of how I interact with others, and to not take it personally when others may treat me in a way I may not like, because it may have nothing to do with me – it's just how they are. Mi experiencia con el seminario dado por el Sr. Daniel Gutierrez ha sido exitoso, por que aprendi que a la hora de asumir retos o responsabilidades, debemos de pensar que ya lo asumimos y que lo logramos aun cuando no lo hayamos realizado todavia, para mi fue una forma de pensar en positivo y que todas las metas que nos proponemos son alcanzables.
